BYOD Wifi Setup for Mac

BYOD Setup on NTCS-BYOD wifi - Macbook/Macbook Air - Ventura OS or newer

These instructions contain several steps to setup a BYOD on the NTCS-BYOD

  1. Join the NTCS-BYOD wifi network
  2. Install NTSCHOOLS Netskope Certificates
  3. Configure proxy settings
Join NTCS-BYOD wifi network

1. Join the BYO device to NTCS-BYOD wifi network using the password provided.

Install NTSCHOOLS Netskope Certificates

1. Open Safari and navigate to https://cert.education.nt.gov.au

2. Under the “Certificates” heading find and download both of the following certificates, Netskope Root Certificate and Netskope Intermediate Certificate

3. Launch Keychain Access App from Spotlight search or Finder > Go Utilities

4. If asked to “Open Passwords” or “Open Keychain Access” then click Open Keychain Access

5. Select Certificates tab and then System on the left under “System Keychains”, then click File Unlock Keychain “System”… 

6. Type in Mac admin password, If this is a student device the student or parent should know this

You should now see an unlocked padlock to the left of System 

    

7. Now open the folder location where the certificates were download to in step 2(most likely to the Downloads folder), then drag the NetskopeRootCA.cer to the Keychain window, when prompted to enter the password then enter the Mac admin password

8. Repeat the process but drag the NetskopeIntermediateCA.cer file to the Keychain window, when prompted to enter the password then enter the Mac admin password

9. Double-click certadmin

10. Expand Trust

11. Change the setting “When using this certificate” by clicking the dropdown box and selecting Always Trust, then close the window

12. If prompted, enter Mac admin password and click Update Settings

13. Repeat steps 9 to 12 with the Netskope Intermediate Certficate (ca.ntgov-edu.au.goskope.com)

Configure Proxy Settings

1. Open System Settings > Wi-fi > NTCS-BYOD wifi > Details

2. Click Proxies, then ensure the following settings
Auto proxy discover is Off
Automatic Proxy Detection is Off
Web Proxy (HTTP) is ON
Server: proxygre.ntschools.net
Port: 8080
Secure web proxy (HTTPS) is ON
Server: proxygre.ntschools.net
Port: 8080

3. Click OK when finished

The settings in Step 2 need to be configured and turned on while the BYOD is connected to the NTCS-BYOD wifi network.  When the device leaves the NTCS-BYOD  wifi network then Auto proxy Discover, Automatic proxy configuration, Web proxy (HTTP) and Secure Web proxy (HTTPS) should all be turned off so that the laptop will work at home or on other wifi networks.
